More about Bath

Bath is 99 miles west of London, in Somerset. It became a World Heritage Site in 1987, and its theatres, museums, and other cultural and sporting venues have helped to make it a major centre for tourism. Its population of some 80,000 is boosted every year by one million tourists who stay there and 3.8 million more on day visits. With over 400 retail shops, half of which are run by independent specialist retailers, around 100 restaurants and cafes, and its famous Georgian architecture and Roman Baths, its popularity is assured.

It has two universities, several schools and colleges and a large service sector. Information and communication technologies and creative and cultural industries are employing more and more people and, although most of its manufacturing industries have disappeared, they’ve been replaced by very successful publishers and software producers. Education and health employ 30,000 people, retail, tourism and leisure 14,000, and business and professional services 10,000.
